Still Becoming

Some days I feel like I should have arrived by now.

At forty, I thought I would have all the answers. I thought life would become quieter, clearer, kinder. Instead, it has been a series of beginnings disguised as endings.

I have been a daughter, a wife, a mother, a professional, a caregiver, a dreamer, a survivor. I’ve worn titles that people could understand. But beneath every title, there has always been one constant truth:

I am still becoming.

Becoming someone who speaks without fear.

Becoming someone who doesn’t apologize for taking up space.

Becoming someone who knows that being kind doesn’t mean allowing herself to be broken.

There are days I look at my unfinished dreams and wonder if I’ve wasted too much time. Then I remember that trees don’t apologize for growing slowly. They simply keep reaching for the light.

Maybe that’s what I’m doing too.

Every heartbreak stripped away a version of me that was built to please others. Every failure taught me something success never could. Every tear watered a part of me I hadn’t discovered yet.

I’m learning that healing isn’t dramatic. It isn’t one grand moment when everything suddenly makes sense. It’s choosing to get out of bed. It’s laughing again without guilt. It’s daring to dream after disappointment. It’s believing that life still has room for surprises.

I don’t have everything figured out.

I still overthink.

I still doubt myself.

I still carry scars that ache on certain days.

But scars are proof that something hurt—and that I survived it.

Perhaps becoming isn’t about reaching a destination.

Perhaps it’s about allowing myself to change without mourning who I used to be.

Today, I choose to be patient with myself.

To celebrate progress instead of perfection.

To trust that the woman I’m growing into will thank the woman who refused to give up.

So here I am.

Still learning.

Still healing.

Still hoping.

Still creating.

Still dreaming.

Still becoming.

And maybe… that’s exactly where I’m meant to be.
